Community Per Lead Intervention Program (CPLI)

Project Overview

The Community Per Lead Intervention Program (CPLI) is a central government initiative, implemented by Galaxy NGO, that focuses on preventing drug abuse among children and adolescents. Launched in November 2019, the CPLI project is actively working in the Thiruvananthapuram district with the ambitious goal of creating a drug-free environment for the youth. The project provides vital support and guidance to approximately 100 beneficiaries each month, helping them resist the temptations of substance abuse.

Objectives

Primary Goal: The main aim of CPLI is to foster a safe and drug-free environment for young people in Thiruvananthapuram, empowering them to lead healthy, productive lives.

Specific Objectives:

  • Education and Awareness: Educate children, parents, and educators about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of early prevention.
  • Support Services: Offer counselling and support to at-risk children, guiding them away from drug use.
  • Community Involvement: Engage the broader community, including parents, teachers, and local leaders, in a unified effort to prevent drug abuse among youth.

Key Components

Volunteer Training

CPLI recruits dedicated volunteers aged 13-18, providing them with specialized training in leadership, communication, and awareness-building. These young leaders are essential in spreading anti-drug messages within their communities and schools. Every three months, 20 exemplary volunteers are selected as peer educators. These peer educators receive advanced training, allowing them to lead anti-drug campaigns and activities across the district. They serve as mentors and role models, helping their peers adopt healthy, drug-free lifestyles.

Awareness Campaigns

The project organizes a variety of awareness campaigns, workshops, and events aimed at educating children, parents, and educators about the risks associated with drug abuse. These activities are designed to create a supportive environment that discourages substance use and promotes positive, healthy behaviors.

Support Services

CPLI provides crucial counselling and support services to children who are at risk of drug use. This includes both individual and group counselling sessions tailored to the needs of the youth. When necessary, the project also offers referral services to specialized treatment centers, ensuring that every child receives the help they need.

Community Engagement

CPLI actively involves community members, including parents, teachers, and local leaders, in its initiatives. By building a strong network of support, the project aims to create a resilient community that works together to prevent drug abuse among young people.
